May 21, 2019…Kris arrived in the UK for testing a week early and had a two-day test to get up to speed after being out of the BRDC British F3 car for nearly a month. He tested at Donnington one day and at Snetterton the following day. Both tests went well.
The Snetterton BRDC British F3 race schedule had a full test day on Thursday and Kris made great progress in learning from his Fortec teammates at the traditional British circuit that is Snetterton. One of the biggest learning particulars for Kris with this car is the unique braking technique required to be as efficient as possible. He worked very hard at this throughout the weekend with great result. His understanding of braking technology, along with use of the Pirelli tires and how to get the most out of them and the car, is an area he I feel he really grew over the weekend.
We are not focusing on race results right now. Our focus is more on looking at techniques and learning the different processes of this car and evolving his racing style to them. This F3 car is unique to anything that Kris has driven in his past racing experiences. With that in mind, I’m very pleased with his progress. He’s doing a great job.
Considering all of the other F3 drivers that grew up karting are used to these sprint race formats; Kris has come a long way. He came up through the sports car ranks and has been taught differently. He’s learned to be more caution about tires and brakes and not take too many chances. The lesson you learn in sports car racing is to bring the car back to the pit stop to turn it over to your teammate. It is difficult for anyone after four years of racing one way to change instantly, but Kris is making steady adjustments to be more aggressive. His lap times were consistent and much closer to his teammates and competitors at Snetterton.
I feel it was a very positive and good weekend. We’ll take all this knowledge and progress with us and go to the next race and keep advancing the rest of the year.
The next British Racing Drivers Championship (BRDC) Formula 3 series race is scheduled for June 8-9 at the Silverstone Circuit in Towcester in Northamptonshire, England.
