Kris Wright was top man today in qualifying for the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda series at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. His time of 1:42.399 was the fastest of 14 LMP3 competitors in the 15-minute qualifying session.
Wright will start on the pole in this evening’s one hour and 45-minute Prototype Challenge race. His co-driver, Stephen Simpson, will take the wheel of the No. 30 iHeartRadio Extreme Speed Motorsports Ligier JS P3 at the designated mandatory pit stop. Intermittent rain has been par for the course today at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course in Alton, Virginia today during other race activities.
“I’m thrilled to get the pole today,” said the 24-year-old Wright. “The car has been sensational this week and I just hope Stephen and I can carry this momentum straight to winner’s circle!”
