DAYTONA BEACH, Florida, January 7, 2018 — Kris Wright started the 2018 racing season off on the right foot. The inaugural IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda series race took place today at Daytona International Speedway and Kris finished on the podium, in third place.
The Pittsburgh, Pa. driver was making his third appearance at the 3.56-mile speedway road course, driving the No. 30 “The Fan” Ligier JS P3 (LMP3) entry, fielded by Extreme Speed Motorsports. The new one hour and 45-minute endurance format allowed for two drivers and Daniel Moran, last year’s Prototype Challenge Rolex 24 At Daytona winner, shared the driving duties in the new LMP3 car.
“It was an exciting race,” said Kris Wright. “It’s a brand-new car and needed quite a bit of work to get it race ready. We only had two days and limited track time to get it right but things came together and we had a good battle in the race. It’s a great way to start the season. “
The next IMSA Prototype Challenge race will take place a Sebring International Raceway, March 14-17 in Sebring, Fla.
